Warning after tyre death

AN URGENT warning has been issued by the Health and Safety Executive after a man was killed while repairing a 1.5 m-diameter earthmover tyre.

The HSE urged employers to assess the potential risks, especially the possibility of violent separation of the component parts of the wheel or an air blast from a burst tyre.

HSE inspector Mike Walters said: 'Tyre servicing is a potentially hazardous job and should only be tackled by skilled personnel.

Kent Police and the HSE are investigating the accident, which happened last month near Sandwich in Kent.
