Bangor contractor and house builder Watkin Jones & Son watched its pre-tax profits soar 40 per cent to £12.5 million in the year ending September 2007.

Turnover rose 30 per cent to £116 million. Watkin Jones said it had bought Cirrus Property for £12 million and Brabco 723 for £4.8 million in order to acquire their land, and would now strike them off the companies register.

The family-led firm employed 294 people during the year, at an average wage of £35,000, up from 267 in the year before.

The eight directors’ average wage was £231,000.
