Wembley sparks push for bonuses

SPARKS on Wembley stadium are pressing for more money following Multiplex's move to pay £1.5 million in bonuses to steelworkers on the project.

The 300 electricians on the job are due to meet Amicus officials and management from electrical contractor Phoenix to thrash out extra payments tomorrow (Friday).

One union source said: 'There are provisions under the JIB for second tier payments - anything between £1 and £3 an hour - which electricians working on projects like the Jubilee Line Extension, the Royal Opera House and Sellafield got.

'The electricians on the King's Cross CTRL project are getting it, so the Wembley lads want some of it as well.'

Multiplex has told the sports minister, Richard Caborn, that the new stadium will be completed by the end of next January as originally promised. In May it said that the completion date had been pushed back to March 31.
