At the moment there are about 28 different registration schemes operating in construction, all of which aim to provide a clear and meaningful card-based registration, but which are operated in different ways.
Some are extremely good, in that they provide evidence of the operative having an awareness of current health andsafety issues as well as competence in his or her trade.
Some seek evidence of competence in the relevant trade before a card is issued, while others issue cards without any meaningful checks. Many are sector-based or regional and there are many 'in-company' variants.
It is no wonder everyone is confused, given the plethora of schemes available. Unfortunately, there are many bogus cards in circulation, too.
