Whisky job draws local

SCOTTISH firm Tulloch is up against three UK firms in the chase for a £15 million whisky bottling plant.

Balfour Beatty, HBG and Sir Robert McAlpine will also bid for the deal to extend the factory in Grangemouth, near Edinburgh, for distiller Whyte & Mackay.

The firm produces well-known brands of malt whisky, including Jura and Dalmore, as well as other high street spirits such as Vladivar vodka and Four Bells rum.

Balfour Beatty won a similar £16 million deal to build a plant for French drinks firm Lamartin Aquaise in nearby Livingstone in October 2002.

Bids are due in on July 5 with a decision on the winner expected in early August.
