Wilson Bowden selected for £250m retail scheme

Rochdale council's town centre committee has appointed Wilson Bowden develop a £250m retail and leisure scheme in the town centre.

The project will feature new shops, an arts centre, restaurants, bars, apartments, a multi-storey car park and a central area with a landmark sculpture.

Ten companies originally submitted bids for the work and Wilson Bowden was selected from a final shortlist of three.

The development, backed by English Partnerships, is expected to begin in 2010 after detailed plans go through a period of public consultation.
