Winning ways in Scotland

THE SCOTTISH Arts Council (SAC) did the construction industry a favour when it published Dreams and Schemes, a book celebrating the impact of National Lottery funding in Scotland.

Dundee Contemporary Arts produced a prize-winning replacement of a disused garage with state-of-the-art galleries, cinema and workshop spaces around a cafe/bar.The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture, Design and the City, has become a flagship for the country's skills in those areas. The Highlands and Islands have also enjoyed a boost to their arts scene with a string of building conversions on Skye, Mull, Orkney and Helmsdale.

It's all been good business for the construction industry. We now need to keep up the pressure on Government to keep these Lottery funds flowing or they'll be diverting even more into running costs for things that taxes ought to fund.
