Wolseley targets electrical market with £81 million acquisition

Plumbing and heating distributor Wolseley has bought UK rival William Wilson for £81 million.
William Wilson, which employs 600 people in Scotland and northern England, also supplies electrical goods and the move provides Wolseley with an entry point into the electrical market.

Wolseley will keep Wilson's management but plans to expand the electrical wholesale division - which has 25 outlets - with an aggressive programme of branch openings.

Wolseley has spent £317 million on 11 businesses since August. The buys are expected to add £462 million in turnover to the group.
