Workers' fears after Rover talks collapse

MG Rover workers today voiced fears that they had built their last car for the company as the Government was finalising a package of support to help those affected by the collapse of talks with a proposed Chinese partner.
Firms which supply the company's huge plant at Longbridge in Birmingham will be targeted for help by a special taskforce which will try to limit the damage to the economy of the West Midlands by the shock breakdown of talks with the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation.

Workers arriving at Longbridge this morning said they had believed that a deal with the Chinese firm was about to be signed but they conceded that the talks had now collapsed.
