Yorkon modules build Tesco at express speed

BUILDING module supplier Yorkon has developed an optimised design for Tesco Express stores, which are built in two weeks using off-site construction units.

Until now the stores have been bespoke units for Tesco, which assembles around six units together to create one of its Express stores.

But after 12 months of collaborative design work, Tesco will now use units created from Yorkon's standard range, allowing cost and time savings through component standardisation.

Portakabin subsidiary Yorkon, which will be the supermarket's sole supplier for a third year, will also fit glazing off-site at its York manufacturing base.

A Leeds store will be the first of 20 this year.
