Yorkshire bridge scheme approved

The government has given the green light to a £15 million scheme to repair nine bridges and 3.5 km of retaining walls on the road network around Kirklees, West Yorkshire.

Included in the scheme are the Calder River Bridge, Ravensthorpe Road Bridge and the Cleggford Bridge. Listed building consent will be needed before work can begin on the Cleggford Bridge.

Transport Minister Rosie Winterton hopes that the works will improve the condition of key access roads around Kirklees, helping to "reduce congestion and make it easier to travel" around the area.
