Immigration 'not linked to housing shortage'

Claims that Britain's housing shortage is mainly the result of a huge rise in immigration were today flatly rejected by the Government as ``wrong''.

Migrationwatch said most of the homes shortfall had been caused by higher-than-expected immigration.

But the Department for Communities and Local Government dismissed the group's claims, insisting that the shortage of houses was down to an increase in single person households.
