Companies submit bids for Al-Gurm hotel in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi-based developer Aldar Properties has received bids from at least two groups for the contract to build the Banyan Tree hotel at its Al-Gurm development.

The bidders include the local Arabtec Construction with the local Target Engineering Construction Company, and the local/Belgian Six Construct Abu Dhabi.

Located southwest of Abu Dhabi island, the contract involves the construction of a 161-room, five-star hotel which will be made up of chalets on individual islands and suites built around a central lagoon (MEED 23:2:09).

The other prequalifiers included Germany’s Ed Zueblin, the local/Cypriot Abu Dhabi J&P, and Greece’s Terna.

Six Construct won the estimated AED600m ($163m) residential construction package in May 2007.

It involves the construction of villas as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing works.

Lebanon’s Dar al-Handasah is the consultant.
