Balfour Beatty and Wates will go head to head on the £300 million Ealing Building Schools for the Future contract.
Third shortlisted bidder Equitix Learning – which includes Willmott Dixon Construction, Galliford Try Construction and Mitie PFI – was effectively knocked out of the race last night.
The decision was approved by the London borough’s cabinet, but remains subject to a cooling-off period. The remaining consortia are Balfour Beatty Education and QED Education Environments, which includes the Wates Group.
The BSF deal will see 14 schools rebuilt or refurbished and one new school built.
A winner is due to be announced in mid April 2009.
Work on the first two schools will then begin in October 2010, with work expected to be completed by 2015.
