Interserve and Vinci are to battle it out for the £150 million St Helens Building Schools for the Future contract, Construction News understands.
The two contractors will be shortlisted by the Merseyside local authority for a job that involves building six secondary schools and two special needs schools.
The contract was put into OJEU at the end of March, with a shortlist expected next month. A preferred bidder will not be announced until August 2010.
A source said: “Only Vinci and Interserve sent back pre-qualification questionnaires, so it will be just those two.”
The authority’s design-and-build sample scheme will be De La Salle RC High School, which houses 1,200 students aged 11 to 16. The proposals are for substantial remodelling with elements of new build and extensive improvements to external works and sports provision on the existing site.
