Southampton seeks contractor for £200m BSF job

Southampton City Council is seeking a contractor for its £200 million Building Schools for the Future project.

The south coast authority has placed a notice in OJEU after its outline business case was approved by delivery body Partnerships for Schools yesterday.

The first phase of the project will see the rebuild and refurbishment of five secondary schools, at a value of £110 million.

The second phase will include work on two secondary schools and up to four special schools, at an estimated value of £90 million. However, the funding for this stage relies on a future government spending review.

Southampton BSF and academies programme director Karl Limbert said: “Securing support for our business plan means we can now start the real job of turning ideas into designs and, ultimately, the school buildings Southampton deserves.”
