Sussex University unveils £150m student housing plans

Sussex University is looking for a contractor for a £150m student accommodation scheme.

The university plans to build 2,000 student bedrooms on its east slope site on its Falmer campus in a deal worth £120m to £150m.

It wants to find a contractor to design, build, finance and operate the scheme for up to 50 years.

The first phase of 600 rooms should be ready for the start of the 2016/17 academic year and the remainder finished in time for the following year.

The successful bidder may also get to build another accommodation scheme on the nearby west slope site in future should they meet performance conditions on the east slope project.

The contractor will provide facilities management and take the occupancy risk, while the university will provide student pastoral care and administration.

Pre qualification questionnaires should be submitted to by 18 November at midday.
