Ashe wins £22m Hertfordshire residential scheme

Ashe Construction has bagged a £22m Hertfordshire regeneration scheme.

The contractor, which has offices in Hitchin, will redevelop Park Place Plaza in nearby Stevenage.

Ashe will deliver 202 homes – a mix of studio flats and one and two-bedroom apartments – as well as retail units on the ground floor.

Work will shortly get under way to strip back the fabric of the existing two buildings on the town centre site, which are mostly made up of offices.

This will leave the buildings’ concrete frames, through which new steel frames will be threaded from the ground floor, to provide two extra storeys of accommodation.

A building fabric will then enclose both blocks to enable fit-out work. The central boulevard between the blocks will be fully refurbished to provide a cosmopolitan terrace.

Completion is scheduled for the end of next year.

Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership this month announced it had secured £19m from the government towards the regeneration of Stevenage town centre. Plans include more than 1,000 new homes.
