Barratt to redevelop £450m Sainsbury’s Nine Elms scheme

Barratt Developments has been named preferred bidder for Sainsbury’s lucrative 750-home Nine Elms redevelopment.

The housebuilder is also working with Sainsbury’s alongside London & Quadrant to redevelop a £420m scheme in Fulham Wharf.

The mixed-use development is worth around £450m.

The Nine Elms store on Wandsworth Road is being enlarged to 80,000 sq ft, and a number of new retail and commercial units will be created.

It will include 750 private and affordable new apartments, ranging from one to four bedrooms.

Discussions have been taking place with Lambeth and the Greater London Authority over the mix of affordable and private.

The scheme is also estimated to create around 300 new jobs.

Sainsbury’s has been on the Nine Elms site for almost 30 years.
