Newham Council housing company submits largest plans to date

The housebuilding company created by Newham Council has submitted a planning application for its largest scheme to date.

Red Door Ventures wants to build 185 homes for private rent at the Town Hall Annexe site on Barking Road.

There will also be provision for affordable housing.

Newham Council set up the housebuilding company in 2014 to increase the number of market rental properties in the area.

The council then reinvests the income generated through the rent back into the borough.

Red Door Ventures chair Lesley-Anne Alexander said: “Our proposal allows us to help contribute to the demand for housing in the area and provide a sustainable brownfield development adjacent to East Ham town centre with excellent public transport accessibility.

“There is also a provision for additional affordable properties, which will be built within the local community.”
