Graham starts £81m Salford student resi scheme

Graham Construction has started an £81m student accommodation project for the University of Salford.

It is delivering the project as part of a consortium that includes Campus Living Villages, Equitix, Graham Investment Projects and Kier Project Investments, who will jointly invest in and develop the property.

Finance for the development will be provided by Standard Life Investments.

The project was initially valued at £64m when it was awarded in April, but Graham said the scope and specifications of the scheme had since changed.

Graham will build the 1,367-bed student accommodation development at the University of Salford’s Peel Park Campus.

It will feature social spaces including TV and games rooms, a gym, group study lounges, a demonstration and private dining kitchen, launderette and a cinema room.

Graham regional director Gary Holmes said the project would raise the contractor’s profile in the North West and reinforce its reputation in the higher education sector.

University of Salford vice-chancellor Martin Hall said: “Our new student accommodation will, alongside our other major investments, create a studying and living environment which will be second to none.”

The project is due for completion by September 2015 when Campus Living Villages will manage the accommodation.
