Healey puts another £122m in pot for new council housing

A further £122 million has been distributed to local authorities across the country for house building programmes, housing minister John Healey today announced.

The cash was split up among 73 councils, which will each match the grants. The figure takes the amount invested in the Government’s new council house building drive to £500m.

Councils that received the funds will also be required to offer apprenticeships and local job recruitment schemes.

Officials aid the move would create 7,500 jobs and about 100 new apprenticeship places.
