Labour reshuffle: changes in housing and transport

Shadow housing minister Jack Dromey has been replaced by former the former shadow Europe minister in Labour’s frontbench reshuffle.

Birmingham Erdington MP Mr Dromey, who was once deputy general secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union, will be replaced by Wolverhampton North East MP Emma Reynolds.

Shadow transport and environment secretaries Maria Eagle and Mary Creagh swap jobs.

Some commentators suggested that moving Ms Eagle away from transport could pave the way for stronger Labour opposition to the High Speed 2 rail project. In her speech to the Labour conference she had said she supported the project but wanted to see the prime minister “get a grip” on its ballooning budget.
