Lagan Homes reveals plan to build 1,000 homes in Belfast

Plans for a £180 million residential development in the hills above Belfast have been unveiled.

Developers Lagan Homes said it would build more than 1,000 homes at the 40 ha site in Millmount, Dundonald.

While planning is yet to be approved, it said it hoped council would give it the green light this month and work could begin before Christmas.

The first 150 homes are expected to be completed by next summer.

Constructors Employers Federation managing director John Armstrong welcomed the plans.

He said: “The construction industry has been one of the hardest hit during the recession.

“The Millmount development is a timely announcement that will immediately give jobs to around 150 construction workers such as engineers, bricklayers, electricians, fitters, roofers, tilers and countless other related businesses such as quarries and kitchen and window manufacturers.”
