Plans for 526 new Bellway homes in Newcastle approved

The construction of 526 new Bellway homes on Newcastle’s former Calder leadworks site between the River Tyne and the Metro Radio Arena has been approved by the city council.

Bellway land director Norman Fada said: “The regeneration along the banks of the Tyne has come a long way, and we hope this scheme will continue that success story.

“There is still real demand for this kind of development on Tyneside, and we hope to begin construction on the site in 2010.”

Ryder Architecture designed the 12-block scheme, and law firm Ward Hadaway acted as planning consultant. Halcrow is the civil engineer and Waterman Group is providing landscape services.
