Fresh Athletes' Village plans released

Playgrounds and cycle lanes will be created as part of the 2012 Athletes’ Village, the Olympic Delivery Authority has announced.

More than three-quarters of the residential plots in the Village are now structurally complete, and a landscaping and public realm project will be delivered by spring 2012.

This will create 10 ha of parklands, wetlands and open space including play areas, cycling facilities, and picnic and recreation spaces.

The Village lies adjacent to the Olympic Park in east London and will accommodate athletes and officials during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In legacy, it will provide 2,818 homes, of which 1,379 will be affordable, owned and managed by Triathlon Homes.

ODA chairman John Armitt said: “The construction of the Village is firmly on track and with landscaping works now underway, we will start to see a series of new green open spaces take shape between the new homes being built.”
