Olympics Water Polo Arena project approved

Plans for a temporary Water Polo Arena for the 2012 Games have been approved by the Olympic Delivery Authority.

The 5,000-seat venue will have a distinctive, sloping inflatable roof and will be designed to be taken down after the Games to be relocated and reused elsewhere.

The asymmetric arena will be wrapped in silver and its rippling roof, made of air-inflated recycled pvc cushions for extra insulation, will slope up from the main pedestrian entrance to the Olympic Park.

Construction is on track to start in Spring 2011 and be complete a year later.
