Canary Wharf Group secures planning on docklands development

Canary Wharf Group has secured planning permission on two major commercial developments in east London.

The decision from Tower Hamlets Borough Council means that construction work can now get under way at 1 Bank Street, which was granted full planning permission.

The Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed 1 Bank Street development will be a 700,000 sq ft, 27-storey building, including three trading floors, retail space and basement parking.

Investment bank Société Générale has signed a lease for eight floors of the building, where construction is expected to start later this year.

The other building – 1 Park Place – received outline planning permission, with consent given by the council for an office building of up to 1m sq ft.

The council will now consider a reserved matters application for a Squires & Partners-designed building but Canary Wharf Group said there were no immediate plans to develop this site.
