Heron Tower welcomes first tennant

Skanska has reached practical completion on the 230 m Heron Tower in the City of London.

The Swedish contractor topped out on the Bishopsgate building last year, and client Heron International has secured four lettings for it.

Close to Liverpool Street Station, the Heron Tower provides more than 40,000 sq m of commercial office space, along with a restaurant and a sky bar.

It has fully glazed double-decker lifts and Britain’s largest privately owned aquarium, which will contain 1,200 fish of 67 different species when fully populated this summer.

The building has a BREEAM environmental and sustainability rating of Excellent and its south façade is veiled with photovoltaic cells.

US law firm McDermott, Will & Emery has moved into floors eight and nine, while serviced office provider Landmark will move into floors 17-19 in July.

Drake & Morgan will operate the ground floor bar and restaurant, while Sushisamba will operate the restaurant and sky bar at the top of the tower, opening late 2011.

Gerald Ronson, chief executive of Heron International, said: “Heron Tower’s completion is a significant event not just for Heron but for the City of London as a whole.”
