A joint venture between EC Harris and Mace has been awarded the contract to project manage the £800 million Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The tower will be the world’s tallest building, rising to more than 1 km – four times the size of the Shard.
The JV will provide project, commercial and design management on the project, which has a total construction area of more than 500,000 sq m.
It will be a mixed-use building including a five-star Four Seasons hotel, apartments and office space. Construction is scheduled to get under way this year and be completed within 63 months.
The tower will be the centrepiece of a £13 billion urban development known as Kingdom City, located to the north of Jeddah and overlooking the Red Sea.
The 5.3m sq m of urban development will include residential, commercial, retail, educational and office space.
EC Harris head of property and social infrastructure Keith Brooks said: “We are delighted to be on the team to deliver this iconic project.
“The Kingdom Tower is a landmark building that will clearly demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to the world.
“We have a world-class team in place and I am confident that our integrated approach towards project, design and construction management will help deliver a safe and successful project.”
Mace chief executive Mark Reynolds said: “Kingdom Tower is a project of international importance and immense ambition and we are delighted to be part of the joint venture team tasked with its delivery.
“As the client’s project manager, I am confident we will deliver a development that is exemplary in its innovation and approach.
“We look forward to the realisation of HRH Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal’s vision, which will secure international recognition for the kingdom’s economic and cultural status.”
Eng. Waleed Abdul Jaleel Batterjee, chief executive officer of client the Jeddah Economic Company, said: “The vision of constructing the tallest tower in the world in Jeddah belongs to HRH Prince Al Waleed bin Talal.
“His vision is also that the project itself will set the world’s sights on our beloved Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and particularly on Jeddah. Furthermore, the project will help create hundreds of jobs for our Saudi countrymen.”
A team led by Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture designed the tower.
