Crossrail has released a new batch of images and video footage as the first Elizabeth line trains are tested.
Platform screen doors have been installed with testing now under way, while installation of the overhead power equipment in the tunnels is complete and the new stations are being fitted out with remaining architectural finishes and M&E equipment.
The new trains are currently being tested between Abbey Wood and Canary Wharf using the line’s new automatic train control system, which operates in the central section of the route.
The overhead power equipment was successfully switched on this week in the remaining section between Westbourne Park and Stepney, meaning that the Elizabeth line tunnels are now fully powered.
Later this year, the first completed infrastructure will be handed over to Transport for London, which will lead the trial operations and commissioning phase ahead of the first services on the Elizabeth line opening in December.
Three separate services will operate from December: Paddington to Abbey Wood; Paddington to Heathrow; and Liverpool Street to Shenfield. The line will be fully operational by the end of 2019.
London Underground and the Elizabeth line managing director Mark Wild said: “The brand new trains that will provide better, quicker and more comfortable journeys for hundreds of thousands of people each day are now running through the tunnels at speeds of up to 60mph.
