Costain wins contract for Preston's £110m western distributor road

Costain has won a £110m contract to build Preston’s ‘western distributor’ road.

The early engagement contract, awarded by Lancashire County Council, will see Costain design and construct the 4km road near Preston, that will link the A583/A584 to a new junction on the M55.

It will also include the construction of link roads to new housing estates at Cottam and North West Preston.

Costain will lead on the planning and design of the scheme, with this work set to begin immediately.

Main construction on the project will start in 2017, with work expected to finish in 2019.

The road is a major part of the City Deal Partnership’s plans to support new development and economic growth in the area.

Costain chief executive Andrew Wyllie said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this ECI contract which further underlines our position as a market leader in the delivery of critical highways schemes which support regional economic growth.”
