Our industry is founded on the skills of specialist contractors.
You innovate and move the industry forward, provide jobs for local people and build the infrastructure, housing, hospitals and schools that we need.
You apply the same level of skill, enthusiasm and passion to projects large and small - and it’s frequently your innovation that makes the difference to projects’ success.
The Construction News Specialists Awards, which open for entries this week, celebrate your brilliance and share it with the wider industry.
Now in their 10th year, the CN Specialists Awards highlight not only the best specialists but their importance to the industry as a whole. Ours are the only national awards for specialist contractors.
Being shortlisted in any category sets you aside as one of the best in your field, and shows potential supply chain partners that you’re someone to work with.
I helped judge the Apprentice of the Year category last year and found the experience both enlightening and humbling. During the day I met an apprentice who has four young children and was determined to provide for his family through a career in our industry, while another had flown from Ireland to England for a job interview at just 19.
Every finalist I met was extremely knowledgeable about their chosen specialist area, committed to their work and, although several were nervous to begin with, their enthusiasm and passion was evident through the way each one spoke about their job. They made themselves, their employers and the industry proud.
There are thousands of other construction apprentices that are committed, mature and passionate about working in their specialist area; if you are a specialist contractor with a brilliant apprentice working for you, enter them for the CN Specialists Awards, tell us why they’re brilliant and show them how much you value their work.
We pride ourselves not only on the quality of entrants, but also the fantastic line up of judges.
Last year we introduced face to face judging for the first time, increasing the number of judges from 15 to over 50. We individually select the judges from main contractors, chief executives and industry experts to make sure you have the opportunity to impress those most relevant to your business success.
To make the shortlist and present in front of these prestigious and industry-leading judges is an achievement in itself, and the rigour of the judging process means the eventual winners really are the best of the best.
With recovery on the horizon, there’s no better time to enter the Construction News Specialists Awards.
