"Construction never stands still and is always changing"

David Wigglesworth of Assa Abloy talks BIM, honesty and the challenges of construction.

How did you get into the industry?

I started as an external sales contracts manager for a leading manufacturer, which was part of the GE/Marconi Group.

My remit was trade and specification sales into design and build projects, major end users and distribution.

What is the best thing about construction?

It never stands still and is always changing.

Especially with the next evolution of BIM, the construction and specification industry is probably in one of the most exciting cycles of change for a number of years.

If you could change one thing about the industry what would it be?

Increased honesty and transparency in terms working relationships to support the mutual benefit of all concerned stakeholders involved in the cycle.

How should we encourage young people to join the industry?

By making the dynamics of being part of the daily challenge more visible. We must appeal to those youngsters that enjoy a dynamic and challenging environment to drive their motivation to succeed.

David Wigglesworth is managing director of Assa Abloy UK, Specification
