16Apr92 UK: DEMOLITION WORKER WINCHED TO SAFETY FROM ROOF OF BELVEDERE POWER STATION, SOUTH LONDON.

A demolition worker was winched to safety from the roof of Belvedere Power Station in south London as fire swept the building.Anthony Hoare, 29, of Cardiff, was trying to escape from the fire, which started when an oil pipe was severed, when he became stranded on the roof.Police in a helicopter rescued Mr Hoare and took him to a nearby hospital.More than 80 firefighters battled to control the fire at the redundant power plant as workers from T Cox Demolition fled the site.The flames ...
