As a member of Build UK, this year Wates Group is opening up 12 of our sites from Norwich to Cardiff, Bristol to Leeds and Southampton to York as part of Open Doors 2018.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to come and see a Wates site in action. From the start of a project to a completed one, you will be able to see and speak to all those involved.
What does a quantity surveyor do? You can find out as you walk around site and speak to our teams to get a real understanding of the roles available to you.
With a vast range of opportunities and roles, it really doesn’t matter where you start; it’s where you can go that counts. There are many options available as people develop in their careers – my own personal journey echoes exactly that.
Having started my career at the age of 16 as an apprentice carpenter, I don’t think there are many things on reflection that I would change.
After graduating off the tools, I moved to supervising a team of carpenters making an entry into site management. This experience enabled me to broaden my knowledge and the exposure led to a move in project leadership, and learning to lead and inspire a team to ensure success.
“You never know what you might discover and how coming through our doors can transform your life”
Winning work, gaining new customers – at the heart of it all is leaving a legacy on the landscape and local communities. A new or converted building in a community is an example of what our industry is all about, and every single person who played a part can be proud of their own personal contribution.
My message is clear: come and have a look, you never know what you might discover and how coming through our doors can transform your life.
Our exciting industry gives you every opportunity if you are willing to take them. We want this to open your eyes to what a fantastic career you can have in the built environment industry.
