Contractor revealed on £825m Paddington Square

Mace has been appointed as the main contractor for Sellar’s £825m Renzo Piano-designed Paddington Square development.

The contractor won the job ahead of Multiplex and Sir Robert McAlpine who were the other two firms shortlisted for the job.

Laing O’Rourke, Lendlease and Skanska had also initially been in the running for the project.

Sellar construction director Paul Flexney-Briscoe said: “This has been an incredibly intense period as we have reviewed exceptional bids from three tier one contractors and I have to pay credit to their enthusiasm for, and commitment to, the project.

“We have decided to move forward on the first stage of the contract for Paddington Square with Mace.

“The other key contract relates to the piling and substructure works at Paddington Square, which we describe as the basement box contract. We are currently reviewing tenders from Erith, Keltbray, J Coffey and Getjar for this and we expect to appoint the contractor by the beginning of February.”

Mr Flexney-Briscoe added: “Piling work is anticipated to commence in March 2019 with completion for the Paddington Square development by February 2022.”
