Contractor sought for remodelling of Chelsea Hospital

The Royal Hospital Chelsea has announced plans to undertake re-modelling works and has begun the hunt for a contractor.

The complete remodelling of the grade I listed Sir Christopher Wren Long Wards and associated pavilion buildings with involve providing en-suite facilities to 190 Chelsea pensioners.

The hospital will appoint a single contractor to undertake the works by a traditional single stage fixed price contract.

It is proposed that the main works will be undertaken over three phases that will run consecutively over a five year period.

Temporary accommodation for approximately 50 pensioners will also be required during the length of the contract.

Between five and eight contractors will be invited to tender following submission on PQQs, due by 1 April 2011.

Tender documents will be sent on 27 June 2011.
