Atkins bags £200m Somerset roads contract

Atkins has been named preferred contractor to maintain the county’s roads in a deal worth an estimated £200 million for Somerset County Council.

It is the second major roads contract in two weeks that Atkins, a leading provider of integrated highways services, has been awarded.

The contract covers all aspects of highway maintenance, road resurfacing, winter service and maintenance of the Council’s vehicle fleet.

Atkins also has the potential to work on other larger road building projects in the area. The contract will start on 1 April 2010 for an initial five year period.
