Avon and Somerset Police to procure £116m PFI contract

Avon and Somerset Police Authority is set to procure a PFI deal, worth up to £116 million, covering the design, build, financing and operation of police accommodation across the South-west.

The construction elements of the project are valued at £80 million while the services elements are valued at £1.2 million per annum over 25-30 years.

The project is anticipated to encompass the following schemes:

  • Three New Custody Centres - purpose built, bespoke facilities, providing force-wide provision and including supportive investigation and prosecution facilities.
  • Police Operations and Administration Base – provision of administration, investigation and support facilities for the south of the force area.
  • Specialist Operations Base – relocation and amalgamation of two existing facilities into a single, operationally prime site for the south of the force
  • Collaborative Indoor Firearms Training Facility – replacing operationally inadequate facilities in ASP, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire with a single training facility.

A contract notice is expected to be published on 19 May and the authority is planning to hold an open day for prospective bidders on 1 June.
