Barr appointed to second phase of £26m college works

Barr Construction has won a £4.5m contract at Coatbridge College after successfully completing the first phase after the initial contractor Rok entered administration.

Barr was appointed to work with property and construction consultants Hardies on completing the £22.5m first phase of building works after Rok entered administration in November.

The Scottish firm completed initial works included the improvement of facilities and provision of full disabled access at the college.

Barr construction manager Michael Braiden said: “This was a great opportunity for Barr to come in and show its ability to adapt, overcome challenges and complete high quality work in a pressurised time-frame.

“We worked hard to meet the original deadline for phase one of the project to ensure the college’s students could start getting full use of the new facilities.”

Barr has begun the second phase of work which will be completed in July 2012.

Hardies Property & Construction Consultants managing partner, Derek Ferrier said: “We congratulate Barr on this latest contract award. They proved their mettle bringing the first phase of the project in on time and I am confident that they will continue to do a great job.”
