Barr wins £44m St Helens rugby stadium job

Barr Construction has won the contract to build the St Helens rugby league team’s new stadium as part of a £44 million development.

The Super League club has said it expects the 17,980-capacity ground, on the former United Glass site, to be complete by the end of 2011.

The stadium is part of a development, which also includes a 140,000 sq ft Tesco supermarket next to the stadium.

Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has acquired the club’s current Knowsley Road site for development.
