Birmingham City Uni invites bids for £100m city campus job

Contractors are being invited to tender for a £100 million contract to deliver phase one of Birmingham City University’s campus.

Phase One will consist of 28,000 sq m in time for the University’s vacation of its existing Gosta Green site by September 2013.

Work to be carried out includes site preparation and enabling works, design, and construction, as well as fit-out and external works.

The wider development could potentially reach a maximum of 55 000 sq m that the University has the opportunity to deliver over the long term in Eastside through additional phases.

The procurement route currently proposed is a two-stage design and build with a maximum of two contractors delivering the second stage.

Work is expected to start on site on 2 August 2010, with completion scheduled for 31 June 2013.

Contractors have until 7 September to submit pre-qualification documents. Between five and 10 firms will be invited to tender on 5 October.
