Dawn Construction will build 632 sq m of offices to mark the start of the regeneration of Bridgeton in Glasgow’s East End after the company signed a £10 million contract.
The deal was secured after the investment arm of Aviva agreed to fund the project, which makes up part of the ambitious Clyde Gateway regeneration scheme.
Clyde Gateway chief executive, Ian Manson, said: “This is an important milestone in the regeneration proposals for Clyde Gateway and the latest piece of good news for the Bridgeton area.
“The Eastgate development is one we identified as being hugely significant in the first phase of Clyde Gateway and we are very pleased that the support of the city council has enabled Aviva and Dawn to be our first private sector partners.”
The deal means that 70 local residents will receive either a job, a modern apprenticeship or a combination of training placements and work experience.
A completion date of late February 2012 has been set for the work, which is expected to begin this month.
