University of Durham opens 50-year £100m accommodation contract for Mount Oswald site

The University of Durham has opened bidding for a contractor to design, build, finance and operate a £100m student accommodation contract.

The university has acquired the Mount Oswald site, close to the main university campus, with outline planning consent to create 1,000 rooms.

It is looking for a contractor to provide two new colleges with 500 self-catered student bedrooms in each block, associated college infrastructure and common space.

The winning contractor will design, build, finance and operate the project.

The contract has an estimated value of £85m-£100m and could potentially last for 50 years.

A minimum of three and a maximum of four bidders will be invited to tender.

Last month, East Ayrshire Council opened a £50m campus project and is looking for a sole contractor to deliver three primary schools, two academies and further education and business enterprise facilities.

Construction is expected to carried out between April 2017 and July 2019.
