Five share £20m of work on Tyne and Wear Metro upgrade

Five firms will share the first packages of work to be awarded on the £100 million Tyne and Wear Metro upgrade.

May Gurney, Serco and Morgan Sindall will work on the £12.1m Lot 5, covering the refurbishment of surface stations.

Meanwhile Balfour Beatty, Bam Nuttall, and May Gurney have bagged Lot 4 – worth £8.3m - for refurbishment and replacement works on bridges, retaining walls, culverts, earthworks and drainage.

In total the Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport Executive put nine lots out to tender for work on the upgrade programme.
