Graham lands £113m University of York project

Graham Construction has landed the £113m contract to deliver a 1,400-bed student accommodation building for the University of York.

The contract will see Graham serve as main contractor for phase one of the university’s expansion of its Heslington East Campus.

Graham is also an investor in the scheme, along with fund manager Equitix.

The project is scheduled to start on site in January 2019, with completion expected to take two years.

The second phase of the scheme will see the creation of an additional 800 beds.

Graham said it intended to make use of an offsite manufacturing facility in the region as part of the project.

Group executive chairman Michael Graham said: “This builds on our strong pipeline of projects in the region following the opening of our Leeds office in 2017.

“The 1,400 units delivered across the first phase of this project will bring our total output in the sector to more than 10,000 in the past five years.”

Graham told CN last week that it planned to focus on improving margin following a dip in pre-tax profit that cut the group’s margin from 2.8 per cent to 1.7 per cent in its 2017 results.
