ISG has won an £80m contract to build two new major developments in the centre of Cardiff, including BBC Wales’ new headquarters.
The contract will see the firm develop BBC Wales Broadcasting House as well as a new office block on behalf of developer Rightacres.
The BBC’s new home will be located opposite Cardiff Central Railway Station and consist of a 150,000 sq ft development set over four floors, which will include studio space, production space and offices for over 1,200 BBC Wales staff.
The Two Central Square office development for Rightacres will include 120,000 sq ft of space across seven floors, with groundfloor retail accommodation.
Foster + Partners has been chosen as the site’s signature architect, with Capita and Sweett selected as part of the design team.
The ISG contract will also include delivering the first phase of the BBC’s fit out, which has been designed by IDSR and Aecom.
It marks the second phase of construction on the strategic regeneration site in Cardiff’s city centre, after work began on the 135,000 sq ft One Central Square office block last year.
ISG’s UK construction managing director Phil Brown said: “Constructing the new headquarters for BBC Wales is a major win for the business and brings all of our office expertise to bear on one of the largest ever private developer-led projects to be built in Wales.
“This is also a highly specified building, with demanding acoustic and vibration tolerances and advanced mechanical and electrical services, which plays to our significant strengths delivering complex technical services infrastructure in the data centre, R&D and healthcare sectors.”
Rightacres project director Jason Hyett said: “We have a great project team, led by Foster + Partners, supported by Arup and Gleeds and to ensure that we deliver the project to the level of quality expected by both the architect and our client, we needed a main contractor with the best credentials.
“From the top down, the team working on the project has shown a huge level of integrity and professionalism and ISG’s performance in putting together the supply chain, budgets and programme for this project has been outstanding”
