Kier to build £19m history centre

Kier Southern has been named preferred bidder to design and build a £19 million historical resource centre near Brighton.

Situated opposite the University of Sussex at Woollards Field, The Keep will provide almost 5,000 sq m of storage, office and public access space across three floors.

Formed of two main blocks, the Keep will house historical records and archives for the local area, together with the special collections of the University of Sussex.

It is a partnership project between East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and the University of Sussex.

Kier Southern is due to begin work on site this summer, with completion expected before the end of 2012. The archive will be opened in 2013.
