Laing O’Rourke bags £116m office job with Derwent

Laing O’Rourke has won a £116m fixed-price contract with Derwent to build a new office building in Paddington.

Work will begin early next year on the Brunel Building, with completion set for the first half of 2019.

The 16-storey, 240,000 sq ft building will front the Grand Union Canal opposite Paddington station and has been designed by Fletcher Priest.

Laing O’Rourke managing director Paul Sheffield said: “The project is one that requires complex engineering, supported by our in-house capabilities along with a fully integrated supply chain.

“The exposed high quality concrete features of this fantastic building will be delivered using a blend of traditional construction and off-site manufacturing.”

Derwent director Paul Williams said the office will add “vibrancy” to the area, which is being regenerated ahead of the opening of Crossrail in 2018.
